Microneedling (Collagen-Induced Therapy)

Clarité was one of the first clinics to introduce microneedling to Ottawa using the Dermaroller® and eDermastamp® systems.

Microneedling is also known as PCI (percutaneous collagen induction therapy) and as CIT (Collagen Induction Therapy)

What does microneedling do?

Microneedling is an effective skin rejuvenation treatment that helps to:

The result is skin looking smoother and brighter with a healthy glow.

Also, microneedling is safe for treatment under the eyes which can be a challenging area with other devices.

As well, we use microneedling for vitamin infusion into the skin for an even healthier looking complexion.

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling uses symmetrical needles that stimulate the skin to produce epidermal, fibroblast, and vascular endothelial growth factors.

Our electric microneedling system uses medical-grade needles to infuse powerful healing and correcting agents, allowing the skin to quickly rejuvenate and repair itself.

Microneedling using Dermaroller® is a safe and effective method of skin treatment.

What is a Dermaroller®?

The Dermaroller® is a rotating cylinder with very fine, medically safe surgical-grade microneedle projections which, when rolled over the surface of the skin, painlessly stimulates collagen and elastin production subcutaneously by invoking the body's own healing response. This results in healthier skin cells replacing older skin.

How Does the Dermaroller® work?

To have a healthy and smooth complexion, our skin must constantly be replaced with new cells. Microneedling with the Dermaroller® stimulates skin renewal by opening pores in your skin called micro-channels. These channels close within two hours of the microneedling procedure via your own natural healing process. During these two hours, your own fibroblast cells enter these channels and cause new elastin production and new collagen structures to form subcutaneously.

Prior to your microneedling treatment

We will ask you to stop all active products such as retinoids one week prior to your treatment. If you have a history of cold sores, an oral antiviral medicine can be prescribed prior to and after the procedure. If possible, you should arrive for your treatment without makeup.

Following your microneedling treatment

Immediately after the procedure, your skin will be warm, pinkish or slightly red. For more aggressive treatments, you will look as if you had a sunburn and may be slightly swollen with some flaking. This usually resolves within 2 days. We will dicuss post care instructions during your visit, which will include using very gentle cleansers, specialized products including hydration cream to allow the skin to regenerate.

The results

The results are not immediate. The final results may be noticeable as early as one week following treatment, but may take up to 6 months to show. Depending on your skin concerns and condition, a series of 3-6 treatments are recommended each approximately a month apart.
